83rd Annual Fall Meeting
From The President
November 29, 2016
Welcome to the 83rd Annual Connecticut Section PGA Fall Meeting and Lake of Isles. Our responsibility as leaders is to keep you informed, and there is no better way to find out what is going on in our Association than attending our fall membership meeting.
The 100th Anniversary of the PGA in New York City was something special to see a few weeks ago. The Connecticut Section brought down Board Members, Past Presidents, and our Officers to celebrate and witness Suzy Whaley become Vice President of our Association. We are so proud of Suzy as a leader and her accomplishments as a professional. The story just keeps getting better!
Today will be an informative day for everyone as we recap the 2016 business year and look ahead to the 2017 season. The Officers, Board of Directors, and office staff have worked hard throughout the year to make sure that all programs have been administered successfully. In the afternoon, we will be holding elections for Secretary and two directors. If you are interested in running for a position but did not turn in a nomination form, consider running from the floor. It is never too late to get involved.
Congratulations to the 2016 Connecticut Section PGA Hall of Fame Class: Tony Rowe, Paul Ryiz, Ted Pisk, and posthumous inductees Stan Pisk and Bob Bodington. I hope you were able to attend the induction ceremony last night. As always, John Nowobilski was superb as our Master of Ceremonies. It was a fun evening and a festive way to recognize people for some of the outstanding things they have accomplished in our section and for the game of golf.
I want to thank our sponsors who are so important to the success of our Section. Also, I want to personally thank all of the section professionals who raised money for our Foundation this year. The Connecticut Section PGA Golf Foundation is a huge part of the financial success of our Section and gives us the ability to show our communities why our members are the leaders in golf. Your continued support of the Foundation is so important for us to continue getting our message out. Please do what you can to help.
We are fortunate to have Tom Hantke as our Executive Director, and our office staff. The section benefits considerably from Tom’s dedication, knowledge of The PGA and golf industry, and ability to manage our operations. Sue Bell, Sally Sohn, Joe Mentz, Patrick Aldrich, Tim Peragone, and Darcy Lucas are an important part of our team as well. Please take the time to thank them for a job well done in 2016. I would also like to thank Bob Clark and Don Malen for their service on our Board of Directors. Their terms are up and they will be replaced by two new directors. I hope they stay involved in some capacity and continue to help the Section make good decisions.
I hope I have met your expectations as President and made a positive impact on the Section and on growing the game. My good friend, Ian Marshall, will be taking over as president and will be a dynamic leader. I truly enjoyed my time serving and will never forget this experience as long as I live. Thank you for this opportunity! It’s been so memorable for me and my family.
I hope you enjoy the meeting. I wish you and your family all the best this holiday season.
