Salito Wins Walter Lowell PGA Tournament

Solidifies Top Spot in Player of the Year Points

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (May 29, 2012) – Ralph Salito, Head PGA Professional of the Club at River Oaks and Honorary President of the Connecticut Section PGA, takes first place in the Walter Lowell PGA Tournament at the Orchards Golf Club today with a grand total of 26 points in the stableford event. Salito took home $750 for his performance and 40 Player of the Year points giving him sole first place. Salito is also a 2012 Candidate for Secretary of The PGA of America.
 
Each PGA Member was divided up into one of four divisions, all named for roles that each PGA Professional fulfills every day. In the youngest, Junior Golf Mentor Division, those with 0 to 6 years of PGA Service where led by Joe Mongillo of Hop Meadow Country Club with 19 points in a match of cards. Also at 19 points was Adam D’Amario of Indian Hill Country Club and Mark Farrell of H. Smith Richardson Golf Course.

Slattery Looking to Defend Title in Walter Lowell PGA Tournament

76 PGA Professionals, Over 1,200 Years of Membership Compete and Honor Public Golf Course of the Year

ROCKY HILL, Conn. (May 25, 2012) - PGA Professional, Ed Slattery of Candlewood Valley Country Club, is the defending Champion and one of five past champions entered for Tuesday's 12th Annual Walter Lowell PGA Tournament at Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass. Last year, Slattery set a new record 32 points in this unique Stableford competition that PGA Professionals of the Connecticut Section PGA call their "Member Tournament". Throughout the competition, PGA Professionals earn one point for par, three points for birdie, and five points for eagle or better.

 

The Walter Lowell PGA Tournament began in 2001 as a way to honor the top public golf course in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts with namesake, Walter Lowell, a member of The PGA of America Hall of Fame and 1978 PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year. Lowell and his family operated Canton Public Golf Course for over 80 years with a dedicated spirit to make golf fun and available to everyone.

Aldrich, Mongillo, Fagan, Lamy Win Salesperson-Professional Invitational Tournament

Twelve-Under-Par 132 Takes First Place Honors

SIMSBURY, Conn. (May 24, 2012) -The Salesperson-Professional Invitational Tournament held at Hop Meadow Country Club was won by the team of PGA Professionals, Patrick Aldrich of Sharon Country Club, and Joe Mongillo, Host Assistant Professional, with Salespeople, John Fagan and Rob Lamy. Their team fired an incredible twelve-under-par 132 in this two best ball gross and net event. Coming in second was the team of Dave Dell, Springfield Country Club, Ken Doyle, Host Teaching Professional, and sales representatives, Jim Mayo and Mike Turner with a ten-under-par 134.
 

Goodhue, Whaley, Salito Granted National PGA College Scholarships

2012 PGA Financial Assistance Fund Scholarships Announced

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida (May 16, 2012) - Established in 1986, the PGA Financial Assistance Fund Scholarship Program provides college scholarships for children and grandchildren of PGA members. It encourages and promotes the attainment of higher educational goals for the children and grandchildren of PGA members, based on evidence of a high level of academic achievement during high school or college. Congratulations to the three scholarship recipients from the Connecticut PGA for 2012: Bethany A. Goodhue who's father is Todd Goodhue of Shennecossett Golf Course; Jennifer C. Whaley who's parents are Bill & Suzy Whaley of TPC River Highlands; and Hailey Z. Salito who's father is Ralph Salito of the Club at River Oaks.

 

Since its inception, some $4.8 million in scholarships has been awarded to more than 2,300 students. Last year, this program awarded 125 scholarships totaling $292,000.

 

Marshall Takes Spring PGA Stroke Play Title and Travelers Championship Exemption

Wins in Playoff Against Connecticut PGA Professional Champion, D'Amario

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (May 8, 2012) – Rainy and windy conditions made for a challenging Spring PGA Stroke Play today at The Farms Country Club in Wallingford, Conn. Ian Marshall of Watertown Golf Club took home first place honors and the exemption to the June 21-24, Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, all after a playoff with Connecticut PGA Professional Champion, Adam D’Amario of Indian Hill Country Club. Both PGA Members fired a two round total of 149 to take the Championship in to extra holes.

 

The par 5, 18th was the first playoff hole where Marshall was able to find the green in three while D’Amario’s second shot took him out of position into the left rough. D’Amario made his way to the green in four and finished with a bogey. Marshall then two-putted for the par and the win.

Copper Hill Golf Club Named the Walter Lowell Public Golf Course Distinguished Service Award Winner

Award Presentation to be held at the Walter Lowell PGA Tournament on May 29

ROCKY HILL, Conn. – The Connecticut Section PGA announced that Copper Hill Golf Club in East Granby, Conn., has been named the 2012 recipient of the Walter Lowell Public Golf Course Distinguished Service Award, as the model public golf course serving the game of golf in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. The award was inaugurated in 2001 in honor of Canton Public Golf Course for the standards it set towards a public course’s responsibility to its community to provide playing opportunities for all those who want to play and learn the game.

Travelers Championship Exemption Up for Grabs in 2012 Spring PGA Stroke Play

Marrello Looks to Defend Title

ROCKY HILL, Conn. (May 7, 2012) – The Spring PGA Stroke Play returns to The Farms Country Club in Wallingford, Conn. tomorrow, May 8, 2012. Not only will the Champion take home the first place prize check and major bragging rights in the first 2012 Connecticut Section PGA Championship, but will also be awarded the PGA TOUR exemption designated to the Connecticut Section PGA Professional for the Travelers Championship, June 21-24, 2012 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
 
This Championship has always been a 36-hole event to warrant the best player for the Travelers Championship exemption, but, for the first time, all 36-holes will be contested in just one day. The Spring PGA Stroke Play is also the first tournament of the 2012 season where Connecticut Section PGA Player of the Year points will be up for grabs.

Junior Golf TOUR Kicks Off with Willow Brook 12-and-under Tournament

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (May 5, 2012) - The Connecticut Section PGA Junior Golf TOUR gets off to an incredible start today at Willow Brook Golf Course in South Windsor, Conn. for the first ever JGT tournament completely dedicated to junior golfers who are under 12 years old. A rainy morning makes for wet conditions but the course seems to be draining well. May players and spectators can be hear talking about how good the conditions are at Willow Brook. Full results and photos from the event will all be posted soon as the players begin to finish their 9-hole rounds.
 

Connecticut PGA Professionals Win Back the Cup after Three Year Drought

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 3, 2012) - The 41st Julius Boros Challenge Cup was contested yesterday at New Haven Country Club under dreary skys. The poor weather, however, did not deter players from the spirit and comoradery that surrounds this special day. At the end of the day, the Connecticut PGA Professionals emerged victorious for the first time in a three year drought. The overall record is now 29 -12 favoring the PGA Professionals. Final results and detailed hole-by-hole scoring is posted for your information.
 

41st Julius Boros Challenge Cup Today at New Haven Country Club

The Best of the Connecticut PGA and CSGA Face Off

The Connecticut Golf House is "divided" one day out of the year for the Julius Boros Challenge Cup Matches that pits the best of the Connecticut PGA Professionals against the best of the Connecticut Golf Association Amateurs.
