Lickliter, McLuen, Branshaw, Quinn Qualify for the Travelers Championship
First Alternate, Taylor Fires 63 Before Being Called Up
PUTNAM, Conn. (June 17, 2013) – Frank Lickliter of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Jay McLuen of Forsyth, Ga., David Branshaw of Tampa, Fla., and Francis Quinn of Holden, Mass. all qualified for the Travelers Championship today following stellar play at Connecticut National Golf Club during in the Travelers Championship Open Qualifier. Lickliter and McLuen had a similar round both carding four birdies and just one bogey as co-medalists at three-under-par, 67. Tied for third at two-under-par and earning spots where Branshaw, who eagled the par-4, second hole, and Quinn, who carded a bogey-free round.
The most interesting round of the day, however, comes from Vaughn Taylor of Purcellville, Va. Taylor, the first alternate for the Travelers Championship itself, had an incredible seven-under-par round of 63 today with a total of six birdies and an eagle on the 583 yard, par 5, 18th to finish. He did, however, received word that he was being called up to play as the first alternate before turning in his scorecard and happily withdrew.
PGA Professional, Kyle Bilodeau previously earned the Connecticut Section PGA’s exemption in May by winning the Spring PGA Stroke Play at Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Amherst, Mass. with a two round total of 141, three-under-par.

Top 54 Advance to Monday's Travelers Championship Open Qualifier

PUTNAM, Conn. (June 12, 2013) - The Travelers Championship Pre-Qualifier held today at par-70, Connecticut National Golf Club earned the top 54 finishers a place in the Travelers Championship Open Qualifier on Monday, June 17. Scores in the qualifying group ranged from 65, five-under-par, to 78, eight-over-par, in very difficult and wet conditions which resulted in a 90-minute delay in tee times. The medalist of the day, Chris Scialo of New City, N.Y., stayed consistent carding six birdies and only one bogey on his way to medalist honors. Jeff Curl of Birmingham, Ala., and Michael Buttacavoli of Miami Beach, Fla. fired a par of three-under-par, 67’s to come in the runner up spot.
Ed Slattery, PGA of Candlewood Valley Country Club and Torrington, Conn. was the low CTPGA Pro on the day with a 71, one-over-par. Assistant PGA Professional at Tallwood Country Club, Zac Stennett, fired a two-over-par, 72, for second place Connecticut PGA Professional honors.View More
Geambazi Earns Highest Honor in Connecticut Section PGA

ROCKY HILL, Conn. (June 11, 2013) – Bob Geambazi of Ridgewood Country Club has been named the 56th Golf Professional of the Year by the Board of Directors and the Special Awards Committee of the Connecticut Section PGA. The Golf Professional of the Year award is given for overall performance as a golf professional, leadership, service to his/her Section, the ability to inspire fellow professionals, and the promotion of the game of golf. Geambazi will lead the 2013 Special Awards Winners being honored Sunday, November 17, at the Special Awards Banquet at Lake of Isles, a Troon Golf Destination, presented by Club Car and supported by Kirk & Matz and Lake of Isles.
“I am very honored and very surprised,” says Geambazi. “I’d like to thank the section and the officers for everything they’ve done for me. It is an extreme honor to be the Golf Professional of the Year.”
Geambazi is a 25-year member of The PGA of America being elected to PGA Membership October 1, 1987. With a desire to be a professional golfer, Geambazi graduated from the University of Florida and played on the mini tours for a couple of years, just looking for a way to break through.View More

Salito Reigns Supreme in Individual Professional Contest
WATERFORD, Conn. (June 3, 2013) - The Wyckoff Country Club Pro-Senior Amateur team led by Tony Kelley and host team, Great Neck Country Club, led by Kevin Shea tied for first in the Golf Max/Golf Pride Pro-Senior Amatuer with a team total of ten-under-par, 132. There was a three-way tie for third at eight-under-par, 134 by Brownson C.C. led by Paul Ryiz, Springfield C.C. led by Dave Dell, and Tallwood C.C. led by Zac Stennett.
In the individual professional competition, Ralph Salito of The Club at River Oaks, who represented the Connecticut PGA in the Senior PGA Championship last month, fired a three-under-par, 68 to beat out second place finishers Fran Marrello of Quaboag C.C. and Zac Stennett of Tallwood C.C. both at two-under-par, 68. Skins were awarded to Scott Knights of Glastonbury Hills C.C. (Hole #7), Tony Kelley (Hole #16), and Frank Leja of Campbell's Golf Center (Hole #13).

Host Assistant, BIlodeau Dominates Walter Lowell PGA Tournament

SIMSBURY, Conn. (May 28, 2013) – Host Assistant Professional, Kyle Bilodeau, lit up Hop Meadow Country Club today firing a five-under-par, 67, to earn a whopping 30 points in the Walter Lowell PGA Tournament, a modified stableford event. Bilodeau took home $1,000 for his performance and 40 Player of the Year points giving him an even greater lead in the standings following his Spring Stroke Play victory two weeks ago.
Each PGA Member was divided up into one of four divisions, all named for golf’s four major sites in 2013. In the youngest, Augusta National Division, those with the fewest years of PGA Membership where led by Mike Devlin of Elmcrest Country Club with 21 points in a match of cards. ELLINGTON, Conn. (May 21, 2013) - The team of Hop Meadow C.C. including Mark Amoroso, Tim Willerton, and Kevin Foster, led by Assistant PGA Professional and Spring Stroke Play Champion, Kyle Bilodeau, won the TaylorMade-adidas Pro-Am, part of the Mohegan Sun Pro-Am Series, at Ellington Ridge with a five-under-par, 139. PGA Professional, Dave Dell, led his team from Springfield C.C. to a second place finish at four-under-par, 140.
In the individual professional competition, Paul Brown of Southington C.C. and Jordan Gosler of Manchester C.C. shot even-par, 72 to take the first place honors. Bilodeau finished in sole third place with a one-over-par, 73.

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (May 16, 2013) - The team of John Aylsworth of COBRA PUMA GOLF, Ray Irvin of PGA Preferred Golf Course Insurance/Bouvier Insurance, Frank Carta of Madision C.C., and host PGA Professional, Howie Friday, fired a 12-under-par, 132, to win the Sales Representative-Professional Invitational Tournament (S.P.I.T.) at Tumble Brook Country Club today. Warm weather made for an enjoyable day that was all topped of with a spectacular reception and dinner under the direction of Executive Chef, Rob Vastano, and his staff. A big thank you also to head superintendent, Cindy Johnson, for immaculate course conditions.
Two teams tied for second place at 11-under-par, 133. The first included Patrick Aldrich, Kevin Lynch, Chris Thomas, and Jeff Palmer. The second was comprized of Bob Kay, Marty Burke, Mike O'Grady, Brendan Dlouhy.

Stanley Golf Course Selected to Host Travelers Championship PGA TOUR Junior Clinic

(May 14, 2013) – The Connecticut Section PGA Golf Foundation, Travelers Championship, and PGA TOUR, and have teamed up again this year to bring a PGA TOUR Player to Stanley Golf Course in New Britian, Conn. for a PGA TOUR Junior Clinic and autograph session on Wednesday, June 19, at 4:00 PM. Stanley G.C. was selected by the Connecticut Section PGA Golf Foundation to host this FREE clinic and Head PGA Professional, Kyle Hedstrom, is looking forward to the day.
