Year Turned Pro: 1993
College/University: Skidmore College
Facility and Job Title: Hickory Ridge Golf Club, Amherst, MA Head Golf Professional
What was your motivation to become a PGA Professional?
Growing up playing the game and being around a country club inspired me and I knew I wanted to be a Head Professional and help families enjoy their golf game as well as being a part of something special, a golf club. To this day, I try my best to represent the best values of the PGA golf professional.
What is your specialty in the golf business?
Tournament Operations
Please list any accomplishments.
NCAA All-American, President’s Council on Growing the Game, Certified in CPR, Mohegan Sun Tournament win, 2-time Western Mass Assistant’s Champion.
What was your greatest moment in golf?
As a PGA Ambassador at the Deutsche Bank in 2007, I walked for 18 holes with Tiger Woods, Seth Waugh (CEO of Deutsche Bank), Jerry Yang (Co-Founder of Yahoo worth at the time $2.7 billion), the President of Dunkin Doughnuts and a hedgefund mogul who may have been worth more than Jerry Yang. I talked with Tiger and Steve Williams the whole Pro-Am round and found him to be very personable and receptive to my company.
What or who has had the greatest impact on your career?
Mike Kucera of The Country Club of Troy. He once told me that you have to do what is best for you. This was in 1994 in my second season with Mike and to this day, I still live by this creed and make my family my first priority.
Besides golf, what else do you enjoy?
Spending time with my family, collecting sports memorabilia and attending Boston sporting events.
If you could play any golf course in the world, which one would it be and who would complete your foursome?
St. Andrews with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods.
If you could give lessons to anyone in the world who would it be and what advice would you give?
I would like to give lessons to Tiger Woods because I believe his flaw has to do with two things – 1) an improper transitional dip in the downswing and 20 a scooping motion in his follow through, which contributes to many of his blocked drives.
What is your favorite golf instruction tip?
My philosophy, which is simple; In order to make the proper swing you must be in the proper position.
