This event is named in honor of Del Kinney, Sr., a PGA Professional and winner of the 1949 Connecticut PGA Championship, who died in a tragic automobile accident.  Del Kinney, Jr. and his sisters donated a fund to the section to associate their father’s name to this championship, and annually contribute prizes for the winning team. The winning team members have their names engraved on the Del Kinney Memorial Trophy.

Doug Dalziel has been on the winning side of the most Del Kinney Pro-Pro Championships in Section history, with five victories. Dalziel won three times with Ray Howell from 1977-1979 and twice with Al Fuchs in 1982 and 1983.
