SUMMARY:Boys Junior Championship Qualifier
DESCRIPTION:This is a qualifying event for the Connecticut Junior PGA Championship that will be held on June 25-26 at the Course at Yale. All players who participated in the 2018 Championship and finished in the top 49\, including ties\, do not need to participate in this event. The fee for the qualifier is $150 and will cover the Championship fee for those who advance. For those who do not advance there will be no refund of any kind. The top 35 and ties will advance to the Championship. \n*Players who reside outside of the Connecticut Section borders (ranges from Western Massachusetts down to the upper most part of Fairfield county) and aren’t members at a Connecticut Section facility are not eligible to advance through to the National Junior PGA Championship. This year the Junior PGA Championship will be held right here in Connecticut at Keney Park Golf Course. \nThis event should be viewed as a Champions TOUR level event due to the quality of competition in the Connecticut Junior PGA Championship. \nThis event will not award any points towards the 2019 Player of the Year race. \nPlayers will receive range balls as part of the entry fee. SUMMARY:36-Hole Champions TOUR Windham Junior Open
DESCRIPTION:The Champions TOUR is designed for advanced players looking to play at the collegiate level. Boys will be playing from yardages of 6500-6900 and girls will be playing from 5500-5900 yards. These will all be 36-hole events that will be ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard and AJGA. With the help of some of Connecticuts college coaches we have established these course set up guidelines with the hopes of attracting both the elite players in the area as well as the college coaches themselves. The Junior Golf Committee will reserve the right to reassign a player to the Players TOUR for further development if they fail to meet set guidelines during the season. \n-Access to this TOUR will rely on GHIN Handicap Index’s\, past tournament scores\, and recommendations from your PGA Professional \n-Boys should have a GHIN Handicap Index of 7.0 or better (must be able to play yardages 6500-6900) \n-Girls should have a GHIN Handicap Index of 15.0 or better (must be able to play yardages 5500-5900) \n-The Junior Golf Committee has the right to deny a player entry into an event based on their Handicap Index\, past scores\, or recommendation from their PGA Professional \n-Boys who play on the Champions TOUR and have a round over 100 will be asked to play on the Players TOUR until they can prove themselves ready for the Champions TOUR. Consecutive rounds above 90 will also warrant review by the Junior Golf Committee. \n-Girls who play on the Champions TOUR and have a round over 110 will be asked to play on the Players TOUR until they can prove themselves ready for the Champions TOUR. Consecutive rounds above 100 will also warrant review by the Junior Golf Committee. \n-No cards will receive the same treatment as a 90+ score for boys and 100+ score for girls

SUMMARY:18-Hole Players TOUR Windham Junior Open
DESCRIPTION:The Players TOUR is designed for experienced players not quite ready to play from the back tees or who still need to develop some of their skills. These players will have had prior tournament experience either from the high school level\, Junior TOUR\, PGA Junior League or other organized golf. These will be 18-hole contests with the boys playing from about 6000-6200 yards and the girls playing from the forward tees. Players will have the opportunity to advance to the Champions TOUR at any point if they meet set criteria. There will be a separate player of the year race for this level. \n  \n-Players can advance to the Champions TOUR by having two rounds below 80 for boys and 95 for girls. \n-Players do not have to advance if they don’t want to \n-Players will be required to send in PGA Professional Certification form

SUMMARY:Julius Boros Challenge Cup Matches
DESCRIPTION:The 48th Julius Boros Challenge Cup Matches will be held at New Haven Country Club\, in New Haven\, Conn. Thursday\, May 16\, 2019. This is a co-sponsored event that pits PGA Professionals versus amateurs from the Connecticut State Golf Association. All players participate in both individual and team matches. In 2018\, the Connecticut State Golf Association team had some solid play from all of their participants and were able to end the Connecticut PGA’s 6-year winning streak with a 36 1/2 to 26 1/2 victory. Each team fields 14 players. \nThe team format is match play four-ball with the front nine worth one point; back nine worth one point; and the overall result worth one point. The individual matches follow the same format. The teams compete for the Julius Boros Trophy\, donated by Boros\, the former PGA and U.S. Open champion who hailed from Connecticut. The PGA holds a 34-13 match record over the CSGA. The members of the professional team qualify to play by finishing among the top eight (8) in section PGA Player of the Year point standings and the top two (2) seniors in the section Senior PGA Player of the Year point standings. Also joining the team are the reigning Connecticut PGA Champion\, the PGA Professional from the host club\, and two (2) captain’s selections. \nRalph Salito is the PGA Team captain.

DESCRIPTION:Mike Bechard is your man. The 12th-year head golf professional at Ludlow Country Club will be the guest of honor at the 2019 Rollie Jacobs Western Mass. Tee Party. \nBechard will be recognized for his dedication\, commitment and service to golf in Western Massachusetts. “I had thought about it a little over the years\,” the Longmeadow resident said of one of the region’s most prestigious recognitions. “The last few years\, with guys who are friends of mine\, like Kevin Piecuch (CC of Greenfield)\, Rick Fleury (now Ledges GC) and Tim Quirk (formerly Longmeadow CC) getting it … I wondered if it might be maybe this year or next. “It was a pleasant surprise\, it’s something I’m very excited about\,” Bechard said. The popular golf tournament and evening dinner takes place May 9 at Ludlow CC. The Tee Party\, established in 1947\, has long been tabbed the unofficial kickoff to the local golf season. Bechard will begin his 30th year in the PGA program\, a career that started with a single season as an assistant at Crestview CC in Agawam in 1989 and continued with six more under Bob O’Neil at Ludlow CC. From there\, he took his first head professional job at Greenock CC in Lee from 1996 to 2006. He then returned to Ludlow in the same capacity and has been on Tony Lema Drive ever since. DESCRIPTION:The biennial Northeast Instructors Conference will be held on April 23-24\, 2019 from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM at the Hartford Golf Club. Registrations are accepted for either or both days and golf professionals are encouraged to bring a guest(s).  The event will feature two of golfs Top 100 Teachers\, Martin Hall and Todd Anderson\, along with Michael Napolean\, owner of nationally recognized SuperSpeed Golf. Click here to register. \nMartin Hall turned professional in 1975 and has received numerous awards for his teachings\, including Florida chapter teacher of the year\, Florida section teacher of the year\, and 2008 PGA of America National Teacher of the Year. He is also a Master Professional of the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland. He has appeared in the Golf Magazine Top 100 since 1994\, and in the Golf Digest Top 50 since the list began in 2000. Martin is currently ranked as the number 10 teacher in the country. \nTodd Anderson\, a PGA Professional since 1987\, was the 2010 National PGA Teacher of the Year. He also won the 2009 Georgia Section Teacher of the Year\, the South Florida Section PGA Teacher of the Year for 1999\, and PGA Teacher of the Year award for Southeast Florida in 1995 and 1996\, and was the Horton Smith Award recipient for the South Florida PGA Section in 2003. Currently\, he is ranked 9th on the Americas 50 Greatest Teachers list by Golf Digest and is one of Golf Magazines Top 100 Teachers. \nMichael Napoean\, a PGA Professional\, has been striving to continually innovate modern coaching methodology. Michael believes deeply that truly expert coaches produce lastly positive change with very little input.  In 2012\, Michael began product R&D on an Overspeed training product called the SuperSpeed Golf Training System\, released in the fall of 2014. Since the launch SuperSpeed Golf has become a global brand and a new standard for speed training in the golf swing.
