SUMMARY:Julius Boros Challenge Cup Matches (Postponed)
DESCRIPTION:The 49th Julius Boros Challenge Cup Matches will be held at New Haven Country Club\, in New Haven\, Conn. Thursday\, May 21\, 2020. This is a co-sponsored event that pits PGA Professionals versus amateurs from the Connecticut State Golf Association. All players participate in both individual and team matches. In 2019\, the Connecticut State Golf Association team continued their solid play from 2018 and kept the cup with a 46 1/2 to 25 1/2 victory. \nTeams consist of 16 players and is captained by Ian Marshall. The team format is match play four-ball with the front nine worth one point; back nine worth one point; and the overall result worth one point. The individual matches follow the same format. \nThe teams compete for the Julius Boros Trophy\, donated by Boros\, the former PGA and U.S. Open champion who hailed from Connecticut. The PGA holds a 34-14 match record over the CSGA. The members of the professional team qualify to play by finishing among the top eight (8) in section PGA Player of the Year point standings and the top four (4) seniors in the section Senior PGA Player of the Year point standings. Also joining the team are the reigning Connecticut Section Champion\, the PGA Professional from the host club\, and two (2) captain’s selections.

SUMMARY:Connecticut Senior Open
DESCRIPTION:Registration will open March 1st\, 2020 at 8:00 AM for professionals and amateurs (8.5 max. USGA handicap Index)\, age 50 and over by July 13\, on a first-come\, first-serve basis. The field will be limited to 156 players. Exempt players (see 2020 Exemption List) will have until the deadline date to enter. As exempt players enter this will move non-exempt players who have entered further down on their position. So\, it is important for non-exempt players to register early. \nThe Competition will be conducted by The Connecticut Section PGA in two stroke play stages. \n1. Age Group Championships; 18-holes on Monday\, July 13\, to determine age group winners in both amateur and professional divisions. Prizes to be awarded to the following age groups in both divisions: 50-59; 60-69; 70 & up. Prizes for amateurs will be gift certificates redeemable at the Shennecossett golf shop\, and professionals will be mailed prize checks. Ties for low score in a division decided by a match of cards\, all other places will split prizes. \n2. Senior Open; 36-hole\, stroke play competition. \nMonday\, July 13 – First round\, 18-holes; There will be a cut to the 72 lowest scores and ties. \nTuesday\, July 14 – Second round\, 18-holes; If necessary\, A Sudden-death playoff to determine the overall champion immediately will take place upon the completion of regulation play.

This joint effort will work to cross promote three events\, one in each section\, with the goal of bringing the regions top juniors together. The events will be ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard and be eligible to earn AJGA PBE stars. \nThe sites are still being determined\, but you’ll want to mark the dates on your calendar. Once all three sections finalize their date and site the final information will be distributed. \nEach event will be open and players will be able to earn points. The final prize has yet to be determined\, but stay tuned as we hope to have some exciting news to announce this winter. \nPlayers who gain entry will receive range balls\, lunch both days\, and a tee gift. \nSpectators are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:The Champions TOUR is designed for advanced players looking to play at the collegiate level. Boys will be playing from yardages of 6500-6900 and girls will be playing from 5500-5900 yards. These will all be 36-hole events that will be ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard and AJGA. With the help of some of Connecticut’s college coaches we have established these course set up guidelines with the hopes of attracting both the elite players in the area as well as the college coaches themselves.
