Jack Kelly Junior Golf Sportsmanship Awards

Recognition for Leadership, Sportsmanship and Character

In 2006 the Connecticut Section PGA created the Jack Kelly Junior Golf Sportsmanship Awards for the PGA Junior Golf Association. The Jack Kelly Junior Golf Sportsmanship Award will be presented annually to a boy and girl JGA Member who best exemplifies leadership, sportsmanship, and conducts themselves in a manner that draws credit to the game of golf. The PGA Junior Golf Committee will determine the qualifications for this award and how nominations are received and applications filed. The recipients of these awards will be invited to the Connecticut Section PGA Hall of Fame Induction and Champions Tribute held at Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Conn.

Harwinton, CONN. (July 20, 2018)— In the second Junior TOUR event of the week, the lightning greens of Fairview Farm Golf Course was a test for even the best of players. The first day saw a field of 125 players between both the Players and Champions TOUR fields.

Trumbull, CONN. (July 17, 2018)—With the Junior TOUR season in full swing, Tashua Knolls Golf Course was a true test for both the boys and the girls. The first day played host to 97 participants between both the Players and Champions TOUR fields.

 

Lyman Orchards Junior Open

Gertsen, Lapple Earn First Champions TOUR Victories

Middlefield, CONN. (July 3, 2018)—On the first two hot summer days of the season, the Connecticut Section PGA Junior TOUR rolled into Lyman Orchards Golf Club for two days of competition. Utilizing both the Jones Course and the Players Course, 150 juniors fought tough in the excruciating heat.

After shooting a +6 (78) a couple weeks prior to qualify for the US Girls Junior Amateur Championship, Alexsandra Lapple of Ridgefield, Conn. continued her great playing to capture the 2018 Lyman Orchards Junior Open in the Girls Champions TOUR division. Lapple lead both rounds after shooting +2 (74) in round one and finishing strong with a +2 (73) in round two on the Player Course.

Lapple will continue her summer of golf with the New England Women’s Golf Association Championship next week before heading to California for the US Girls Jr Amateur Championship.

Tiffany Wu of China finished a close second place shooting +5 (76-72-148).

In the boys division, Mark Gertsen of New Canaan, Conn. came from behind to capture the Boys Champions TOUR division shooting +6 (74-75-149) for the tournament. Gertsen trailed Luke Carroll by one stroke heading into the final round, but was able to continue his consistent play on route to victory.

There was a three way tie for second play with Jake Antinelli, Luke Carroll, and Jonathan Farrell all finishing +8 (151).

Mathew, Mitchell earn exemption into Northern Junior

BERLIN, CONN. (June 21, 2018)—Summer golf for the Connecticut Section PGA Junior Tour has begun with the Ryan Lee Memorial Junior Open at Timberlin Golf Club. Warm temperatures and perfect golfing conditions made for a wonderful two rounds of golf at this par 72 course in Berlin, Conn.

The Boys Connecticut PGA Junior Championship Qualifier was held Sunday June 3 at Goodwin Park Golf Course with 75 boys teeing it up for a chance to advance to the Connecticut PGA Junior Championship at the Course at Yale on June 26-27.
