Del Kinney Pro-Pro Championship

Season-ending Championship hosted by Torrington Country Club

      Cutter & Buck

The Del Kinney Pro-Pro Championship which was the final event on the 2018 Connecticut Section tournament calendar is the books.  Mother Nature wreaked havoc across the state of Connecticut and force the event to postponed until November 12.  Glenn Carlson, PGA Head Professional, and the team at Torrington Country Club hosted the final event which pits two-person teams in an 18-hole best ball format to determine the champions.

Competitors chose their own partner, however, the top 30 on the Player of the Year points list as of 30 days prior to the tournament may not be on the same team. Anyone outside the top 30 may form a team with any other Section PGA Professional.  In addition a PGA Member inside the Top 10 on the current POY points list are not permitted to play with an Associate.

On a brisk fall day, the team of William Street and William Wallis caught fire and posted a round of 5-under par (67) to best the field and earn the championship trophy.  Three teams posted rounds of 4-under (68) to share runner-up honors.

A special thanks to longtime event sponsor Cutter & Buck, represented by Jeff Schroeder.  We appreciate you continued support of this great event and our section tournament program.

This event is named in honor of Del Kinney, Sr., a PGA Professional and winner of the 1949 Connecticut PGA Championship, who died in a tragic automobile accident.  Del Kinney, Jr. and his sisters donated a fund to the section to associate their father’s name to this championship, and annually contribute prizes for the winning team. The winning team members have their names engraved on the Del Kinney Memorial Trophy.

Doug Dalziel has been on the winning side of the most Del Kinney Pro-Pro Championships in Section history, with five victories. Dalziel won three times with Ray Howell from 1977-1979 and twice with Al Fuchs in 1982 and 1983.
