Mike Martin Leads 70th Senior Connecticut PGA Championship

MADISON, Conn. (August 30, 2021) – Mike Martin of Tashua Knolls Golf Course shot a one-under par 69 today at Madison Country Club and leads the 70th Senior Connecticut PGA Championship going into tomorrow’s final round. The 2018 champion had three birdies and two bogies in a round he described as one where he managed himself pretty good.

“I got lucky on a few holes where my drives went right but I had clear shots to the green,” he said. “I believe my turning point was on hole 12 where I had to play sideways after a poor drive. I managed to save bogey.”

Jason Gobleck of the Golf Center at Lyman Orchards, is one shot behind Martin after posting and even par round of 70. Gobleck is currently leading the Connecticut Section PGA Senior Player of the Year points list.

Joe Cordani (Hop Meadow CC), Bob Mucha (Edgewood GC – Southwick, Mass.), and Jan Wivestad (Crestbook Park GC) are tied for third and four back after posting 73s.

The top four finishers entered into the 33rd Senior PGA Professional Championship qualifier (a contest within the Section Senior Championship), will qualify to play at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., on October 21-24, 2021.

The final round gets underway at 8:00 AM tomorrow. Martin, Gobleck, and Cordani tee off in the last group at 9:21 AM.
