Susie Cavanagh Leads Hartford Women’s Open

Rhode Island professional has a two-shot lead over four amateurs heading into tomorrow’s final round

HARTFORD, Conn. (July 25, 2022) – Susie Cavanagh of Warwick, R.I. was the only player to manage an even par score today at Keney Park Golf Course in the first round of the 7th annual Hartford Women’s Open.

After uncharacteristic bogeys on the first two of the three par 5s at Keney Park, Cavanagh’s eagle two on the par 4 12th got her back to even par for the round. She parred her final six holes coming home and posted 70 which gives her a two-stroke lead heading into tomorrow’s final 18-hole round.

Trailing Cavanagh are four amateurs who all shot 72, including the 2020 Hartford Women’s Open champion Angela Garvin from Feeding Hills, Mass. The other three – Molly Holbert (Mechanicsburg, Penn.), Arabella Lopez (Ridgefield, Conn.), and Sana Tufail (Southborough, Mass.) are all making their first appearance playing in the event.

Another stroke back at 73 are Grace Farland (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Yvette O’Brien (Greenwich, Conn.).

Defending champion Mia Grzywinski shot 76 and is tied for 15th.

It was Cavanagh’s first time playing in the event. She played Keney Park for the first time Sunday in a practice round saying that she really likes the course.

Tomorrow’s final round gets underway at 8:00 AM. Cavanagh, Lopez, and Holbert are in the final group and their starting time is 10:42 AM.
