Beauton and Tang Lead After Round One of the 48th Junior Connecticut PGA Championships
Tumble Brook Country Club hosting the Sectional qualifiers for the National Championships
BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (June 27, 2023) – Andrew Beauton and Nicole Tang each recorded six birdies today at Tumble Brook Country Club propelling them to the top of their respective leaderboards in the 48th Junior Connecticut PGA Championships.
Beauton, class of 2025 from Guilford, Conn., sported a clean scorecard recording two birdies on his front nine (the Park) and four on his back nine (the Fazio), enroute to turning in a bogey-free 6-under par 66.
Beauton takes a one stroke lead into tomorrow’s final 18-holes.
Michael Guerrera (class of 2023, Farmington, Conn.) stands alone in second place after recording a 5-under par 67. Will Gregware (class of 2024, West Hartford, Conn.) shot 69 and is in third place.
Tang, class of 2027 from Bellevue, WA, recorded just one bogey on her way to a 5-under par 67 and a three-stroke lead in the girls’ championship over Kristina Xu (class of 2025, Claremont, Calif.).
Cindy Cao (class of 2026, Watertown, Conn.) and Emily Luo (class of 2024, Danville, Calif.) each shot even par 72 and are tied for third place.
The 36-hole championships conclude tomorrow.
The top two finishers in each of the championships will earn spots in the PGA of America Junior Championships that take place August 1-4, 2023, at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
