C.J. KONKOWSKI DEFENDS HIS CONNECTICUT PGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE NEXT WEEK AT ELLINGTON RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB

ELLINGTON, Conn. (October 1, 2023) – A lot will be on the line for Connecticut Section PGA Professionals next week at Ellington Ridge Country Club as the 27th playing of the Connecticut PGA Professional Championship gets underway on Tuesday.

This will be one of the final opportunities to earn Connecticut Section PGA Player of the Year points this season that will not only determine whose name goes on the Bob Shea Plaque as the Section Player of the Year, but also who secures spots to play on next year’s PGA Team in the Julius Boros Challenge Cup Matches.

In addition, the 50 of the 53 PGA Professionals who are entered into what is more commonly referred to as “the Connecticut Section Championship” are eligible to earn the three spots to advance to the 2024 PGA Professional Championship that is scheduled to be played in April at Fields Ranch at PGA Frisco in Fisco, Texas. The Section Player of the Year also earns an exemption to the national event.

Last year, C.J. Konkowski of Hartford Golf Club won the Connecticut Section Championship title at Shuttle Meadow Country Club, firing rounds of 68 and 69 for a one-shot margin of victory over two-time champion Chris Tallman. Konkowski (196.00), who currently ranks 5th on the Player of the Year rankings, recently captured his second section championship, the 2023 Assistant Connecticut PGA Championship in August at Crumpin-Fox Club. He also was co-medalist at last month’s Match Play Championship qualifier.

Ellington Ridge is a par 72, 6,936-yard, Geoffrey Cornish designed golf course that also hosts the PGA TOUR’s Travelers Championship qualifiers.

The section champion will win the $4,000 first prize from the $20,000 prize purse.

The tournament presenting sponsors are Club Car, Corebridge Financial, and Rolex.
