CHRIS TALLMAN WINS WALTER LOWELL PGA TOURNAMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME

Was Runner Up in 2017

MANCHESTER, Conn. (June 1, 2022) – Chris Tallman started his round with four straight birdies on holes 11 through 14 that catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard in the 2022 Walter Lowell PGA Tournament yesterday at the Manchester Country Club.

Tallman, the general manager at Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Mass., posted 31 points in the modified stableford event where points are awarded for pars (1 point), birdies (3); eagles (5); and double eagles (7). Tallman’s seven birdies gave him 21 points and his ten pars gave him the balance of his total. He had only one bogey on his round. He collected $1,500 for his win.

Michael Jerierski of Raceway Golf Course posted 27 points by recording six birdies and nine pars, to finish runner up.

The field of 65 PGA Members was divided into four divisions based upon years of PGA Membership, all named for golf’s four 2024 major championship sites: Augusta National Golf Club, Southern Hill, The Country Club, and The Old Course at St. Andrews.

Jerierski won the Augusta National Division with 27 points; Marc Bayrm of Timberlin Golf Course took the Southern Hills Division with 25 points; Kevin Mahaffy of Pequabuck Golf Club won The Country Club Division with 23 points; and Rick Fleury, PGA Life Member, was tops in the St. Andrews Division with 24 points. Each division title holder earned $700.

In the team foursome cumulative Stableford contest, the team of Ted Perez, Jeff DelRosso, Bayram, and Tallmn scored a cumulative total of 90 points and took first place. Each player received $200.

The Southern Hills Division won the cumulative Stableford division contest by earning 296 points. All players in the division received $75.

The Walter Lowell PGA Tournament began in 2001 to honor the top public golf course in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts with namesake, Walter Lowell, a member of The PGA of America Hall of Fame and 1978 PGA of America Golf Professional of the Year. Lowell and his family operated Canton Public Golf Course for over 80 years with a dedicated spirit to make golf fun and available to everyone.

At the awards luncheon PGA General Manager Jason Beffert accepted the Walter Lowell Public Golf Course award on behalf of the Lyman Orchards Golf Course and the Golf Center at Lyman Orchards, this year’s public golf course recipient.
