ELLINGTON RIDGE COUNTRY CLUB HOSTS TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP PRE-QUALIFIERS NEXT WEEK
There are 273 hopefuls looking to be among the 38 and ties to advance to the Monday, June 19 Open Qualifier.
ELLINGTON, Conn. – For the eighth consecutive year, Ellington Ridge Country Club will serve as the setting for the PGA TOUR’s Travelers Championship pre and open qualifiers.
There will be two pre-qualifiers conducted by the PGA of America’s Connecticut Section for the PGA TOUR. These will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, June 14 and 15.
A total of 273 competitors – 193 professionals and 80 amateurs – from 25 states and Canada are entered into the 18-hole Stroke Play pre-qualifiers where a total of the top 38 plus ties (17 and ties from Wednesday and 21 and ties from Thursday) will advance to the Monday, June 19, Travelers Championship Open Qualifier which will also be held at Ellington Ridge.
Members of the 2022-2023 PGA TOUR season, current members of the Korn Ferry Tour, current Regular members of PGA TOUR Champions, a player who played in the preceding week’s PGA TOUR event immediately preceding the Open Qualifier, former PGA TOUR members from 2019-2022, a player making the cut on the PGA TOUR in the current 2022-2023 season, and players in the top 100 on the World Golf Rankings as of the non-member entry deadline are exempt into the Open Qualifier. Any of these players that wish to enter the Monday Open Qualifier will have until Friday, June 16 to properly enter.
From the Open Qualifier the top four will be awarded spots in the 2023 Travelers Championship that will be held June 22-25, at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
Last month Andy Svoboda, the head golf professional at Great River Golf Club (Milford, Conn.) won the 92nd Connecticut PGA Championship at the Country Club of Farmington thereby earning the Connecticut Section PGA exemption into the 2023 Travelers Championship.
Established in 1959, Ellington Ridge Country Club is an 18-hole, 6,936-yard, par 72 golf course designed by noted golf architect, Geoffrey Cornish.
