SOUTH GLASTONBURY, Conn. (April 23, 2019) – Fairview Farm Golf Course Located in Harwinton, Conn. has been selected by the Connecticut Section PGA to receive the 2019 Walter Lowell Public Golf Course Distinguished Service Award. Opened in 2000, Fairview Farm is an 18-hole championship golf course, banquet facility, and restaurant. The establishment is being recognized by the PGA, for being a role-model public facility as a result of its efforts to provide accessibility and a fun and enjoyable golfing experience.

The award will be presented at the annual Walter Lowell PGA Tournament, on Tuesday, May 28, at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass.

Fairview Farm is an avid supporter of high school golf. It is the home course of Lewis Mills High School, and schools such as Gunnery, Thomaston, Gilbert, and Forman frequently play their matches at Fairview Farm. Moreover, it annually hosts both a CIAC Championship and the Berkshire League Championship.

In addition to making the course accessible to high school golf, Fairview Farm provides employment opportunities for junior golfers as well as discounts on greens fees and equipment. It is well known throughout the community for not only providing these opportunities, but also for the junior camps and clinics conducted by the golf professional staff with support from the Goshen and Harwinton Recreation Departments.

Fairview Farm also supports regional and local golf associations, hosting numerous events including USGA amateur qualifiers, PGA Pro-Amateurs, and a Junior Golf TOUR tournament every year.

“The Fairview Farm ownership and staff are delighted to be recognized for our dedication and commitment to public golf,” said Bob Sparks, PGA Professional. “We are proud of our efforts and the strides we have taken down this pathway.” He added.

The par 72 layout is located on what was formerly known as Delay Farm. In 1998, Robert Ferrarotti developed the golf course on 160 acres. He practically built the golf course on his own, transforming the property into the premier upscale public golf course it is today. In addition to 18 finely manicured golf holes, Fairview offers a driving range and a two-tiered putting green.

Since 2001, the Walter Lowell Public Golf Course Distinguished Service Award has honored a public golf course in the Section, in recognition of their dedication to the promotion of the game of golf. The award was inaugurated in honor of the Canton Golf Course for the standards set towards a public course’s responsibility to its community to provide playing opportunities for all those who want to play and learn the game.
