Round One of the 46th Junior Connecticut PGA Championships is completed

Keney Park Golf Course hosting the Sectional qualifiers for the National Championships

HARTFORD, Conn. (June 29, 2021) – It was 23 months ago when the last Junior PGA of America Championships were held, and both were hosted by Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn. The 2020 championship did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, 22 girls and 66 boys got a taste of that PGA golf championship experience as Keney Park is hosting the 46^th Junior Connecticut PGA Championships where the top two girls and boys in their respective 36-hole championships will advance to the 2021 Junior PGA of America championships. This year they’re both taking place next month in the State of Kentucky.

In today’s 100-degree heat, scoring was just as hot.

Catarina Petrovic, 16, of Farmington, Conn., shot a one-under par 69 and leads by three strokes over Tiffany Chan, 17, of Kent, Conn., who shot 72. Defending championship Josephine Genereux, 17, of Greenwich, Conn., is in third place, 4-strokes back after shooting 73.

In the Boy’s championship, Connor Goode, 17, of Glastonbury, Conn., and Ryan Downes, 15, of Longmeadow, Mass., are leading after each shot 3-under par 67s. Sean Watchmaker, 15, of New Canaan, Conn., is one stroke back at 68. Will Gregware, 14, of West Hartford, Conn., shot 69 for the only other sub-par round of the day.

Both 36-hole championships conclude tomorrow.

Back in 2019, Jake Heath of Charlotte, NC, and Yuka Saso of the Philippines won the Junior PGA national titles at Keney Park. Both the women’s and men’s Keney Park course records were set in those championships. Megha Ganne of Holmdel, NJ, shot 62 in the third round and Jake Beber-Frankel of Miami, Fla., shot 60 in the second round.

Earlier this month, Saso won the United States Women’s Open and Ganne finished as low amateur.
