SOUTH GLASTONBURY, Conn. (August 28, 2020) – The section championship of the Connecticut Section PGA, the Connecticut PGA Professional Championship, gets underway on Monday at Wampanoag Country Club in West Hartford. There are 50 PGA Professionals competing in the 36-hole championship not only for the title and the 100 OMEGA Player of the Year points; but also for the three advancing spots to compete in the 54rd PGA Professional Championship, April 25-28, 2021, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
The section championship has a $20,000 prize purse with an award of $4,000 to the champion.
There are seven past champions in the field: Chris Tallman (2018), Bill Street (2017), Billy Downes (2013), Adam D’Amario (2011), Brian Keiser (2010), Ian Marshall (2007), and Bob Mucha (2000). Tallman (152.50) of Orchards Golf Club (South Hadley, Mass.) and Street (125.00) of Whitney Farms Golf Course (Monroe) are currently the top two on the OMEGA Player of the Year point standings.
Round one gets underway at the 6,610-yard, par 72 Wampanoag course at 8:00 AM. The final round will be played on Tuesday.
The PGA Professional Championship is presented by Club Car and OMEGA. Supporting sponsors are Titleist/FootJoy, NIKE and TaylorMade. Presenting partners are Golf Channel and the PGA TOUR. The 41 Section Championships and the National Championship offer a combined purse of more than $1.5 million.
